Modern
downtown San Diego was established in the late 1800s when it was decided to relocate
the city from alongside the river to the harbor front. Downtown San Diego is bordered
on the West and South by the harbor, and on the North and East by the curve of
Highway '5'. Today
Downtown San Diego can offer a great variety of attractions, events, activities,
entertainment, dining and shopping. It has also become a desireable place to live,
with a number of new homes being built since the late 1990s. These new residences
are in the neighborhoods of downtown, from the new 'East Village', to the older
'Cortez Hill' and Little Italy.
